Q: Who developed Protectorion?

Protectorion was developed by Braincell consult & research GmbH located in Graz, Austria. The team is comprised of mathematicians and lawyers.



Q: Who is the target group of Protectorion?

Protectorion is suitable for individuals and teams who want to keep their data safe, and at the same time manage and share it.



Q: What kind of files can I manage with Protectorion?

Protectorion can manage all types of files.



Q: Where do I obtain help and/or support?

Q: What is considered a safe master password?

No, for security reasons your password is not saved.



Q: Will my Protectorion master password be saved somewhere?

Use a password with plenty of capital and lower case letters, special characters and numbers.



Q: I forgot my master password, what should I do?

If you forget or lose your password, access to your data is no longer possible. We cannot help you in this case. For security reasons you are the only person who knows your master password.



Q: How are my data encrypted?

Protectorion uses the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with a key depth of 256 bit for the encryption of your data. AES is recognized as secure standard for encryption.



Q: Can I also use Protectorion on my USB flash drive or my external hard drive?

Yes, install Protectorion directly on the USB flash drive or on the external hard drive (install wizard in main menu Extras). Protectorion automatically establishes a directory, in which all data are saved with encryption, on the USB flash drive or hard drive. You can then start Protectorion on your flash drive or external hard disk and use Protectorion on any computer.



Q: Can I also copy data directly from one safe to another safe?

Yes, use Copy & Paste (CTRL+C/CTRL+V) to copy data from one safe to another safe. Simply copy the data, change your active safe and paste your data there.



Q: Can I change my master password later?

Yes, you can change your master password at any time.



Q: What about the security code for each safe?

When you create a new safe Protectorion generates a security code for the safe. However, you do not need to remember the different security codes. Simply enter your master password to access all safes.



Q: How can other team members access a safe?

Simply tell them proper storage location of the safe and the security code of the safe. They can create a new safe, select the proper storage device and folder (e.g. network drive, cloud drive) and enter the correct security code. This will give them access to the safe and its content.

Q: On which operating systems will Protectorion run?

Protectorion will run on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit).



Q: What hardware is required?

At least: 1 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM
Recommended: 2 GHz processor or higher, 2 GB RAM or more



Q: Why is the free .NET Framework 3.0 or higher required?

Protectorion was programmed in C# and therefore needs the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 or higher. The .NET Framework is already integrated in Windows 7 and Windows Vista. In outdated installations of Windows XP SP1 and SP2 it can be necessary to download and install the Service Pack 3. Afterward the .NET Framework from Microsoft can be downloaded and installed.



Q: What does the error message the maximum path length has been exceeded mean?

Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 use the file system NTFS, which allows a maximum path length of 255 characters. Therefore directories with a total length of more than 255 characters are also not possible in Protectorion.



Q: What happens to my data in Protectorion, if I install an update of Protectorion?

In this case your data in Protectorion stay unchanged. You can continue to work with your data after the update.
